BEGINNING

My earliest recollection of playing with design as a child was in building models. Plastic models of bugs, cars, animals, military things – they all took me in to teach how to think about three dimensions and how to envision fitting pieces together to create a whole. I inevitably began building balsa wood and paper flying model airplanes, including a large model glider.

I started sketching in grade school, copying straight from photographs I found in books and magazines and from images of airplanes I had memorized. In high school I informally began painting. I continue to draw and paint.

EDUCATION

My college education comprises 10 years: 5 years in Science followed by my first professional degree (five year) in Architecture from the University of Oregon School of Architecture and Allied Arts. During my last year in school I was instructing younger architectural students how to draft 3-D drawings from their plan designs.

In 2011 I had became a Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC)

TEACHING

I taught design, drawing and perspective drafting workshops in Oregon School of Design, Oregon School of Arts and Crafts, Oregon Society of Artists, Northwest Woodworking Studio, and Marylhurst University. I had given many critiques at the U of O architecture and product design studios. One summer I was a teacher assistant for the University of Oregon Architecture School Summer Program in Rome.

WORK EXPERIENCE

I began my architectural internship in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Projects I’ve worked on include historic upgrade and adaptation, new built and adapted condominiums, and school renovations. I continued my internship in San Francisco. The past three decades I have worked in offices in Portland on projects ranging from the Coast to Eastern Oregon, including schools, housing of all types, religious buildings (Christian, Buddhist, Orthodox), community centers, mixed use buildings and master planning.

Much of my time in early architectural offices was spent drafting 2-D perspective and producing renderings of projects being designed.

CURRENT WORK

I focus on residential projects – residential architectural design offers a closer, more personal connection with a client with whom I explore ideas more deeply. To work with a client to discuss ideas, discover aspirations, and realize an encompassing solution to their goals is my endeavor. In addition, I will take on special commercial projects, such as community centers, religious projects and works concerning master planning.
