VALUE OF DESIGN
The value of design is to bring meaningful expression to the practical and functional solution for my clients’ unique needs, concerns and aspirations.
STYLE
“… A distinctive appearance, typically determined by the principles according to which something is designed.”
PRINCIPLES OF GOOD DESIGN
Good Design is functional, fulfilling current and anticipating future occupant needs.
Good Design aesthetic is integral with it’s usefulness and should be beautiful, as considered by Client and Designer. It avoids “trending fashion”, so will remain fresh and relevant into the future.
Good Design is environmentally-responsive, conserving resources. It also regards fires, floods, wind and earthquakes as natural design parameters to incorporate into the planning.
Good Design meets and guides its’ surroundings as that context evolves. It does not defy the site nor will it encumber the future. It will not outlive it’s purpose.
Good Design enhances and adds value to the original building with additions, remodels, or adaptive reuse projects, either by treating both parts with respectful contrast, or by creating a unified whole.
Good Design is complete through the details, giving expression to the building and clarity and direction for construction. Care and accuracy in design and documentation shows respect toward the Owner and the Builder. It employs materials directly and honestly..
Good Design highlights materials and advancing technology for fresh expression while employing solid and tested materials and construction. Good Design is never an untested experiment.
What is being designed should be useful and expressive
How it is being designed for construction will be tested and stable
